Making The Booklets

I got this project from the book "MAKING MINI BOWS" by Kathleen McCafferty.  She has many great Mini Book ideas and all are easy to make. There are illustrations at the back of the book for each stitch that she uses and templates for some of the projects that call for them.  Check out her book if you haven't already.

Finished Dimensions
Five books, each 3 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches (8.9 x 11.4 cm)

Stitch Used
Pamphlet (see below for directions)

Materials
20 pieces of paper, about 4 1/2 x 7 inches (11.4 x 17.8 cm)
Thread of your choice

Tools
Craft Knife
Ruler
Bone Folder
Awl or Paper Punch
Sewing Needle

Directions

1} Trim Paper [if needed] into 15 sheets of 4 1/2 x 7 inches (11.4 x 17.8 cm).
2} Fold each sheet in half to make a folio of 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches (11.4 x 8.9 cm) and crease with the bone
     folder.
3} Nest 3 folios together to make a signature.  Repeat to make a total of 5 signatures.
4} Punch 3 holes along the fold of the first signature with an awl or paper punch. Repeat for each signature.
5} Bind one of the signatures using a pamphlet stitch.  (see below) Instead of starting with the needle on the
inside of the booklet, start your stitch on the outside fold.  Tie the ends of the thread together on the outside.
     Repeat for each signature.

Here's the ones that I made.  I put a saying on the front of each one. I also used a separate color for the cover of the five books.  This was on top of the 3 signatures that I  nested together.

How to do a PAMPHLET STITCH

1] Cut a piece of string 3 times the length of your book
2] Open the book and thread the string through the center

3] Thread the string through the top hole
4] Next, thread the string through the bottom hole, skipping the center hole.
5] Thread the string back through the center hole and tighten up that stitch.
6] Tie the string around the string running along the spine, and cut off the excess
